Lewisville Bar - Shot of the Month - June Wedding CakeOver the centuries, June is regarded as the most popular month for weddings. Some say it's because it is the start of moderate temperatures and good weather. Here at Daddy-O's Pub, we love to celebrate June Weddings with our Shot of The Month - Drink Special. We're unveiling our newest shot - the "June Wedding Cake".  It is a shot made with Three Olives Cake Vodka, Amaretto, and Pineapple Juice. Whether you are married or single, this shot is very yummy to the taste buds and only $5 this month!

Now you must be wondering why June is considered a popular month for weddings?

The history of weddings celebrated during the month of June goes all the way back to early Roman times. The Romans celebrated a festival in honor of the Juno, goddess of marriage and childbirth, on June first. To the Romans, this was a good time to marry.

During the 1400's and 1500's, June was considered the time when folks came outdoors after a long winter and bathed together.  It is our guess that being clean was a good time for a new beginning and time to marry someone. This also started the tradition of using flowers at weddings which was a way to mask body odor.

June Weddings have history with the Celts. The Celts celebrated "honey moon" which was referring to the first moon after the summer solstice on June 21. This eventually turned into the celebration that we know to day as the "honeymoon" after the wedding celebration.

Back in the day, getting married in June meant that children conceived after marriage would be born the following spring.  This increased the chances of the couples' children surviving.  It also helped because it did not interfere with fall harvest, which created income for families. June Weddings were also very significant when it came to payments for a dowry or a "bridewealth" (the male counterpart of the dowry). Some of this played into the traditions that we see today like - the father of the bride walking down the isle to "give away" his daughter and “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue”.

June Weddings have had an impact on pop culture. "June Bride" (1948) was a movie about a June Wedding staring Bette Davis and Montgomery Clift. "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" (1954) was a musical about a June Wedding.  And, the Royal Wedding of Price William to Kate Middleton carried on this tradition by getting married in June.
